max⁡(x,y)\max(x, y) extended to xx where Re⁡x≥Re⁡y\operatorname{Re} x \ge \operatorname{Re} y and yy elsewhere, and min⁡(x,y)\min(x, y) extended to xx where Re⁡x≤Re⁡y\operatorname{Re} x \le \operatorname{Re} y and yy elsewhere, with discontinuities where Re⁡x=Re⁡y\operatorname{Re} x = \operatorname{Re} y.
